Scones with Butter and Grape Jelly

This is my family's favorite recipe! We recently moved into a new home and its also how we chose to christen our new kitchen. This one is simple and straight forward!

Here's what you'll need:

  1. 2 cups All Purpose flour

  2. 4 teaspoons baking powder

  3. 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

  4. 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt

  5. 1 large egg

  6. 2/3 cup of whole milk (or 2% milk with a dash of coffee creamer)

  7. 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.

  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar and salt.

  3. Cube the butter into small pieces and add to the flour (it must be cold). Using a pastry blender or two forks, cut the butter into the flour until the pieces of butter are pea sized or smaller.

  4. Mix the egg with the milk and then stir into the flour mixture to combine (don't over mix).

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and roll it to a 1 inch thickness.

  1. Using a biscuit cutter or simply cutting them into square, cut out your scones and place them onto a parchment lined or greased baking sheet.

Use an additional 2 tablespoons of whole milk to brush the tops of the scones before baking them in the oven.

  1. Bake at 425 degrees for at least 12-15 minutes until you reach your desired level of doneness (we like ours a little toasty).

  2. Let them cool (but not too much) so you can add a nice pad of salted butter along with a spoonful of grape jelly and enjoy!!
